Skilled – Recognised Graduate Visa (Subclass 476)


[Visa Closed to New Applications]

As of 1 July 2024, the Skilled – Recognised Graduate visa (subclass 476) is no longer open to new applicants. A cap was placed on this visa on 22 December 2023, and it has been permanently closed by the Australian Government.

This visa previously allowed recent engineering graduates to live, work, or study in Australia for up to 18 months to gain skilled work experience. However, this pathway is now closed.

Family Members – No Subsequent Entrants Allowed

From 1 July 2024, no subsequent entrant applications for family members can be submitted under Subclass 476.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicant must be 31 age or younger
  • Applicant must not previously hold Subclass 476 and Subclass 485
  • Applicant must have an eligible engineering qualification from a recognised institution in the past 24 months

Applicant engineering degree should be in one of the following disciplines:

  • Civil engineering
  • Structural engineering
  • Chemical engineering
  • Environmental engineering
  • Electrical and electronics engineering
  • Mechanical, production and plant engineering
  • Mining and material engineering

You have completed one of these degrees in the last two years:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Masters degree
  • Doctoral degree
  • Postgraduate degree

English Requirements for the 476 Visa:

If you are a citizen of the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America or the Republic of Ireland or you hold a valid passport from one of those countries, you are considered to meet the English language requirement for this visa. Otherwise, you must provide evidence of having achieved the following scores from one of the specified English language tests. You must complete your English language test before you apply.

Health & Character Requirements (Still Apply for Active Visa Holders)

If you are still holding a valid Subclass 476 visa, you must continue to meet Australian health and character standards:

  • Health Check: Must provide medical examinations conducted within the last 12 months.
  • Character Check: Police certificates are required from every country you’ve lived in for 12+ consecutive months over the past 10 years.
